Reblog if you think the next disney prince should be GAY.
4 million and counting
5 million
I totally misread ‘prince’ as ‘princess’. Either one would be awesome. As long as he didn’t become to token comedic relief :/

LGBTQ* Images and Stories in Religious Texts
“Friends and Family” in the Old Testament*Disclaimer: This post does not belittle any religious text, nor does it intend to offend anyone. This post reviews reading the Bible as a scholarly text and not a book of faith.*
David and Jonathan
Some scholars believe that there was a romantic relationship between David and Jonathan. The book of Samuel discusses the two’s deep friendship which often hints at a love much more than that of two friends.
1 Samuel 18:1
“…Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself.” (NIV)
“…the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul” (KJV)
1 Samuel 20:41
“After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with is face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together - but David wept the most.” (NIV)
Ruth and Naomi
The bond between Ruth and Naomi is often credited as being a love affair between two women. The bound of undying love is often used in modern marriage ceremonies and is take from the Book of Ruth.
Ruth 1:16-17
“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me.” (NIV)
*the world “clave” in Hebrew is recognized as marriage. It is used as a term for heterosexual marriage in Genesis 2:24
Ruth 1:14
“Ruth clave unto her.”
Daniel and Ashpenaz
The relationship between Daniel and the chief of courts Ashpenaz may be viewed as a relationship of two men within the Bible’s text.
The Hebrew words used to describe Daniel and Ashpenaz are “chesed” and “v’rachamim”. “Chesed” means mercy. “V’rachamim” translantes to “physical mercy and love.” While many translations now read that Ashpenaz “showed mercy and mercy” to Daniel, it would be reasonable to believe that the original text reads that Ashpenaz showed “mercy and physical love” with Daniel.
Daniel 1:9
“Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.”

How To Start A Community GSA
This post is by GLSEN Student Ambassador Carly
As many LGBT students and their allies across the country know, starting a Gay-Straight-Alliance is no easy task. When trying to establish a school GSA, students may face opposition from their school administration, their peers, or even the community at large. The situation gets even grimmer for students at private schools or middle schools, which usually have no legal obligation to let such GSA’s form.
And yet, as an ally who attends a public K-8 school, I know that the need for GSA’s—and the need for a safe place for all students—at such schools can be just as great as the need for them at public high-schools. Like many students, I wanted to do something to address this issue. Unfortunately, my administration has so far refused to do anything in relation to LGBT-bullying. So I decided to take a different route. I started a community Gay-Straight Alliance for all the students in my town.
Just like starting a GSA in a school, the road to starting a community GSA can be a little bumpy. However, it is a viable alternative for students at middle or private schools, who’s administrators say “no” to GSA’s. So in this blog post, I’d like to share a little bit about how I started a GSA, and how students in similar situations as me can do so themselves. <click title to read more>

i can imagine 10 years from now when i have kids and they’ll be learning about american history and marriage equality and coming home and talking about how ridiculous it was that this was even an issue and asking if this really happened when i was a kid because i know when i was younger i would come home and ask my mom why segregation of blacks was happening when she was a kid it’s all just ridiculous that not everyone is equal already wow

GLAAD launches campaign against Kirk Cameron's homophobia
Kirk Cameron, a former actor and icon from Growing Pains, ruined his teen heartthrob status this week with a slew of homophobic comments on CNN.
During an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan last night, the former Growing Pains star-turned evangelist said he views homosexuality as being “unnatural… detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.” Cameron spoke out against same-sex marriage, saying, “Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either.”
Wasting no time, GLAAD has launched a campaign to show Cameron just how wrong he is, including a petition where you can tell the former star he’s “no longer your idol.” In addition, there’s information about celebrities who do support marriage equality - there are plenty.
Can we just remember for one second that “traditional” marriage, the one everyone is trying so desperately to protect, was actually between man and property? And also that not everyone in the country believes in Adam and Eve? People who think this way terrify me.

Maryland governor will sign marriage bill today
Maryland’s Gov. Martin O’Malley will sign a bill today legalizing marriage equality in the state. Same-sex ceremonies will be performed starting in January 2013.
Gay marriage supporters assume they’ll have another hurdle to jump as the law is expected to be petitioned to referendum in November.
Gay marriage opponents are prepared to collect the nearly 56,000 signatures needed to put the measure on the ballot and are expected to rely heavily on churchgoers who oppose same-sex marriage as a matter of faith, to reach that goal.
How sweet it is.

The weird new site everyone's talking about
Seen this one yet?
In response to recent debates over Mormons baptizing people into their faith post-mortem, a new web site popped up giving people the ability to “convert dead Mormons.”
It’s called All Dead Mormons Are Now Gay, and it lets you either enter the name of a deceased Mormon person or “choose a Mormon” and press a button to “convert” them. A disclaimer at the bottom of the site says that “Holocaust victims are not eligible for conversion.” Some historical background on that from the Advocate:
The denomination, formally known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, has long been known to perform what it calls “proxy baptisms” of non-Mormons after death, but it has come under particular criticism recently when it was revealed it had posthumously baptized Rosa Wiesenthal, a Jewish victim of the Holocaust and mother of famed Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal, and her husband, Asher Wiesenthal, who was killed in action in World War I. Proxy baptisms of people who died in the Holocaust are against LDS policy, but a church member nonetheless performed the procedure for the Wiesenthals. LDS officials have apologized and disciplined the member.
Is this in bad taste or is this in bad taste?
I dont know how i feel about this, but I converted Brigham Young just for hahas

"The way for the creative community (and indeed, the entire world) to address anti-gay bullying is not through weepy portraits of its victims, but through SHEER RAGE. Fuck “It Gets Better.” Show us a campaign against gay teen bullying called “THIS SHIT HAS TO STOP RIGHT NOW” and we’ll sign on in nano-seconds. Because the people who need to address anti-gay bullying definitely aren’t the victims – and not the bullies, either. it’s society that needs to change its attitudes toward gays, from the top down. And when the majority of people are righteously angered by any attempts to dehumanize gays or treat them as inferior – and more importantly, moved to act on that anger, rather than sitting at their computers and shaking their heads over it – then anti-gay bullying will practically evaporate. Every time a gay kid takes his life, it’s not he who’s at fault, nor is it the parents, the bullies, the church or the school district. WE ARE. WE ALL ARE. You should be furious about it, not gently weeping over music videos."
